Patricia Apodita is a Celebrated Ghanaian gospel singer, also known as Mama Pat. She comes from The Bolga-East Municipal District, Zuarungu in the Upper East Region of Ghana.
Patricia Apodita appeared on NTV for a comprehensive interview on her personality and music journey on 5th July 2024. Describing her music journey, she mention that music in the North by then was a virgin sphere so difficult to practice. She revealed and commended the support of Gazok of Studio 502 by then, in Tamale, who helped in the arrangement and recording of her first album in 1994 of which Daari Kina was part. Mama Pat added that, Nat Awuni was the only male who had a Frafra Gospel Album by then and she was the first female to record a Frafra Gospel Album. It had massive airplay on Ura Radio and Fila FM that was in Tamale.
About herself, Patricia is a Registered General Nurse but retired now. She worked in Bimbilla for some number of years before she was transferred to The Tamale Teaching Hospital. She retired as a District Director of Nursing Services (DDNS). She is a holder of Masters in Nursing. Notwithstanding the workload, she still had time to do music.
Her transfer to Tamale gave a boost to her music career. She had the opportunity to sing in crusades and other Christian gatherings where her songs impacted live. “I sang in one Jesus crusade and a cripple stood up and walked”, she recounted an event that became a source of motivation for her.
Patricia Apodita hinted that she has intentions of reworking on many of the songs that were on the “Daari Kina” album released in 30 years ago.
Currently she resides in Tamale with her family. This woman and many other laid the foundation for gospel music in Northern Ghana and for us to envision our destination in the Gospel music terrain, we ought to acknowledge their efforts and have their blessing.
