Drummers in Northern Ghana You Should Know About

Northern Ghana has some young talented drummers that you need to know about. Northpraise has taken the effort to exhume the profiles of some of these melody makers.

Josiah Wunpini Napari is a young drummer who hails from Tarikpaa in the Northern Region of Ghana, but currently stays in Tamale. He likes to describe himself as “an artist by profession, and a Worshipper by calling”.

He is the seat drummer of A. L Fant’s Sanctuary of Wind & Fire AG Church.
This young man Started drumming in 2010 and has learned and improved upto date.
Joe got inspired to play drums because of his love for God and the hunger to serve Him with the gift He gave him. He gets direct mentorship fro Emmanuel Bludo Jnr.

Joe has been on the pedal for many artists from the North and others outside Northern Ghana. Some of them include; Rev. Stephen Napari, Ps Isaiah Fosu-Kwakye Jnr, Efe Grace, Philip Adzale, Luigi Maclean, Diana Hopeson, Ps Joe Beecham, Max Praiz, Joachim Nyame-Eshun, Sheriff Rockson, Frank Wilson, Edmund Goode, Moindib Fant, Jemima Kpelly (Jemda), Justein Tehilah, Andy Gospelz, Irvine Anyekase, Prince Ike, Selasie Manasseh Wenzel, Eben Praiz, Erd Muzic, Rev. Joseph Alhassan, Joycelyn Nsoyine Alhassan, Joseph Imoro, Enoch Alidu, Ps. Jedidiah Godson Atia, Saabi & Matt, Joel Alhassan, Festus Nikki, and music groups including; Worshipper’s Praise Inc. (WPI), Amazing Love Crew (ALC) in Tamale, and The G-Project in Accra.

Josiah envisions fully becoming that which God has called and enabled him to be in the coming future.

Azure Isaac Awinbe popularly called Ike Sticks is from Bugri corner in the Upper East Region of Ghana but Lives in Bawku. Ike is the official drummer of Minister Felicia of Feli Ministries, The Apostles Crew and Tebarnacle Music Ministry (TMM) in Zebilla.
Azure Sticks started drumming in 2015 back at High School where he became the school band’s drummer. He also had a series of lessons from the music teacher of his High School (Bigboss). He is one of the few that had the opportunity to learn music as a subject in school. Music was one of the subjects Ike studied back in High School and even in College.
This drummer had his inspiration to hit drums from one drummer called Ericus papa.

“I loved the happiness on his face whenever he is on the drums”, Ike said.
Ike Sticks has worked with many artists. Some names are; Min Edwina, Min Felicia, Seth Praise, Rev. Philip, Min James Ororo, Min Bismarck, Min Shadrack , TMM in Zebilla, Holikeys in Zebilla, True Worshippers in Bawku and many others. His dream is to work with musician outside and inside the country.

Wisdom Yirimeya Dindego is a drummer from Worikambo in the Upper East Region who currently resides in Tongo.
He drums for Tongo Central Assemblies of God Church.
Wisdom started drumming when he was in primary school; in the early 2000s. His passion for the work of God inspired him to take drumming as one of his life endeavors.
This very drummer has worked with many artists with the region and outside the region, especially during his tertiary education days in the Upper West Region.
Wisdom has played for Minister Edwina, Minister Emmanuel (Chosen), Minister Godwin, Minister Eunice, Minister Gabby, Pastor Nii, Minister Sherry and many others.
It is his hope and prayer that in the future he will get to understand and grow more in the act and ministry of drumming so that he can also help other young musicians(drummers) who want to learn.

John Akentugna also known as Jaydrums is from Yorogo but stays in Zaare all in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region. He drums for Converted Christians Ministry International (CCMI) in Bolga.

John can not trace back to identify the specific time he started drumming because he started drumming at an early age in his life.
Realizing that drumming was a gift, he worked harder and became better. He also observed some great drummers he considered his mentors; Emmanuel Bludo, Calvin Rodgers, Jerome flood, Victor Musongo, Sunnie snares, CJ Thompson. His keen observation of these top guys has developed John’s calmness on drums which is a noticeable feature of his. John receives direct coaching from Mr.Ken (KENBABS) who is classified as the drummer’s father in his region.
He is the official drummer for the Harmonic crew in Zebilla. John has played for names like Nii Okai, Min Mckernel,
Elvis Nsoyine, Dpraiz, Jojo Arhin Min Nhyiraba Gideon, Min Asa and music Ministries such as Heritage Bolga, BOW (Desert Pastures Bolga), Born of the Sprite(BOTS).
Jaydrums wants to praise God with his gift and also to make an impact on drummers who look up to him.

Joseph Atiah Awinyam is another upcoming drummer in Zebilla in the Upper East Region. He drums for Faith Worship  Center A/G, Tanga
Joseph started learning how to play drums in 2016 and had coaching from his band tutor back in High School.
Young and growing up in the village, Joe used to set up “Kuffour gallons” as drums, and used sticks to design his own pedal. This depicts how Joseph was enthusiastic about drumming but he never knew this will develop to be a work for God.
His inspiration to play drums was the challenge to find something doing in the house of God, and observing drummers both within and out of the region such as Ikesticks, Jaydrums,  Makarios,  Emmanuel Bludo Jnr and others.
He is the seated drummer for Holikeys music ministry in Zebilla.
Aside from that, he has played for other musicians and music groups like Edwina, Zeruah Annieya, Seth Praise, Vidash ministry,  Ezeawings ministry and others.
He intends to use drumming to raise the standards of Gospel Music within the North.
