John Apyke, The Northern Ghana Gospel Unsung Hero


John Apike, known in the music space as John Apyke, is an accomplished gospel praise and worship leader, singer, a minister and a gifted songwriter whose origin can be trace back to the Upper East Region of Ghana. He comes from Yikene, a purlieu under Bolgatanga.

Born to Moses and Elizabeth Akologo, John Apike spent most of his life in Kumasi with his family, schooling and alongside evolving his musical abilities. John Apyke is beautifully married.

John Apike began singing casually in 2003 and it was felt as a hobby but in 2009, He recognized singing as a call into ministry.
Aside ministry, John Apyke works as a practicing Nurse.

John came to the limelight in the Ghanaian Gospel Music Space with the release of his first single titled ‘Hom Ma’ which means ‘Only You’. The powerful worship song attracted ears and hearts to John Apyke. Afterwards, The young man has released other three singles and they are; ‘Free’ which featured renowned gospel minister and Pastor – Eugene Zuta, ‘Shake The Devil Off’ and ‘Soki Nayine’ (Ask God).

John has written most of his songs in Frafra despite his obscureness in the Northern part of Ghana and more specifically the Frafra Land. John’s hidden inspiration is that, “I want to have Frafra gospel songs reach out to many and worship with the beautiful language God blessed me with and write Spirit inspired songs showing God’s Glory.”

Mr. Apike has worked with some highly recognized Musicians and groups in Ghana; Eugene Zuta, Elvis Bentil, Emmanuel Moore, Uncle Ato, Christ Anchor, and Stewards of Grace where he had the opportunity to minister with Ps. Isaiah Fosu Kwarkye Jnr and Ps. Edwin Dadson. While with Christ Anchor he also ministered with Akesse Bremong and Seth Acquah of JoyfulWay.

The singer gives special credit to Gideon Osae Appenteng of Christ Anchor where he was nurtured and had a reshape of his music abilities.
